The "reform" Gelmini: is disappearing teaching the history of art in schools?

February 10th, 2010 | by Benedict |

Remember: the Italian Constitution, Article 9: The Republic promotes the development of culture and scientific and technical research. Protecting the landscape and the historical and artistic heritage of the nation.

Thus we begin. With two lines of undeniable evidence of civilization. A Civil Republic preserves, protects and enhances its cultural heritage. Well these days the implementation of these principles may well have been called into question.

In many quarters, especially inside the world of school, we note the drastic reduction in hours of teaching art history in colleges. In some institutions, such as professional, teaching seems to be even canceled.

If that fact were true, the terms described in the video posted below, we believe it could be highly detrimental to the whole Italian people, we try to understand why.

The main danger, and is the first that comes to mind is to create an education and a Series A Series B We would add that the cultural distance between social classes already economically distant, who have a different accessibility to the world of culture and art.

The teaching of art history in high schools are institutions that are not important just for the role it plays in bringing children to the knowledge of the artistic heritage of the nation, although this will not act directly on their profession.

The school should not be considered as a business, you should not put aside what is not considered immediately useful or expendable to the training of future workers.

Knowledge of Italian is preparatory to the creation of a good Italian citizen, and a good citizen is a good worker. It 'a clear principle, but of enormous value.

The study of art history is an indispensable opportunity not to deny the small Italian citizens in the near future will be mothers and fathers, and form new families of this nation.

It is not lawful, we believe, would deprive a large portion of students with the knowledge of art history. We hope that future developments will lead to reduce the flow of these announced changes, or rather, to remove it.

In a system like the one where the Italian Cultural Heritage are dramatic emergency conditions, where the protection is at risk almost everywhere, the use is not guaranteed as expected, the enhancement is almost nonexistent with the exception impromptu interventions, interventions announced they prefigure Heavy as a negative element for the sake of exploitation, where the school, however, is the first place for the development of Italian art.

Dear archaeologists and art historians these interventions, among other things to reduce a lot of job opportunities for you (us), meaning that if the hours dimuiscono also decrease the chairs.

And finally, appropriate closure we may just be the parallel between Article 9 of our great Constitution and the reduction of hours of teaching art history in schools. Do not think that the two things palesino a contradiction?
