The Coca-Cola will arrive in Venice

February 23rd, 2009 | by Joseph C. |

The news was reported by La Stampa : Coca-Cola will sign an agreement for 2 million and 100 thousand euros, with the city of Venice in return will have the opportunity to place vending machines for snacks and drinks in town. This figure, plus royalties on sales, will be collected over the next five years by the city of Venice. Now the controversy have been raised against the council and the mayor Cacciari accused of wanting to spoil the city: and then they unleashed the protests of the bartenders and owners of stalls who see danger in their business.

Massimo Cacciari has replied by saying that this money will go towards the preservation and restoration of Venice: "It is now a financial strategy for safeguarding our architectural heritage and artistic and is exactly in line with the wishes of the Ministry of Culture," these are the words of the mayor. The Architectural Heritage Office has expressed his opinion in favor of the transaction.

Maurizio Calligaro, chief of staff for Mayor, has ensured that Venice will not be flooded with advertising messages seen that the brand Coca Cola distributors will not be present and that the city will not be disfigured.

So far the record.

But what do you think? They are just these types of agreements between public and private? There is a risk for our cultural heritage and is a good way to raise funds for conservation?

Venice .. but it was not forbidden to "camp out" in the streets and squares? .. If I buy a Coke from a distributor, I have to hide to drink? .. Then the Municipality of Venice also doing rounds the budget to pay 3 euros to use a bathroom "public" .. mah!
