Antiquarian Book Show
March 2nd, 2009 | by Anna |From March 13 to 15, at the Palazzo della Permanente in Milan will host the XX edition of the Antiquarian Book Fair, organized by the Library Foundation of Via Senato.
Precious rarities will be presented to the public from about 50 European and American exhibitors, including leading antiquarian bookshops, collectors and the Institute of the Italian Encyclopaedia Treccani.
Among the most valuable volumes are exhibited works of 'art illuminated Renaissance, the first official index of books forbidden by the Catholic Church, "librorum prohibitorum Index", published in Venice in 1564, after the Council of Trent.
Among the specimens on display, you can also see the manual for inquisitors, "Malleus maleficatum", published in Cologne in 1494, the first illustrated edition of Vitruvius' De Architecture, printed in Venice in 1511, an unpublished manuscript on the history of Rocco Brienza southern brigandage dated 1861.
Great emphasis is given to literature and poetry of the late fifteenth century incunabula, illuminated books of the Renaissance, illustrated books and artist books of the twentieth century.
Of great importance are the first illustrated edition, in Spanish, Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes and various editions of the sixteenth century Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.
There is no lack of scientific books, about the 'astronomy, botany, the' anatomy.
